💦 The Seven Springs Waterfall Trail

Three waterfalls. Three little Tennessee day trips. Pick one, pack your hiking shoes + make a day of it.

BURGESS FALLS DAY - 25 miles

Start with coffee on our front porch with locally roasted coffee by Button Willow. Then head to Burgess Falls for the waterfall trail. Burgess Falls is more than just one waterfall. The trail follows the water past three beautiful falls along the way, making the hike itself part of the experience. Follow the river, take in each cascade, and save the best for last — the mother of all falls, Burgess Falls. 💦🌿

The hiking side gives you the overlooks, but you cannot reach the base of Burgess Falls from the state park. Getting underneath it is a separate kayak adventure from Cane Hollow—which becomes perfect for Excursion #2 below.

Afterward, make Chestnut Oaks Farm Store & Kitchen your lunch/farm-store stop. Sparta tourism specifically highlights it for burgers, wings, steaks and salads.

The vibe: coffee → waterfall → farm lunch → back to Seven Springs for a fire.

ROCK ISLAND DAY - 12 miles

This is the one I'd make your slow-country-day itinerary.

Rock Island is all about big water, rocky riverbanks and dramatic views. Wander along the Caney Fork, explore the overlooks, and take in Great Falls spilling across the river below the historic dam. Give yourself time to explore — this is the kind of park where you’ll want to stop, climb around and simply sit beside the water for a while.

Take your time exploring Rock Island State Park, then head toward Renea's Kitchen At Midway for the little local diner experience. It's a homestyle café popular with people traveling to and from the park.

Make The Farmers’ Storehouse in Sparta your provision stop on the way home. Wander the market for fresh-milled flour, grains, bakery treats, local goods and coffee to bring back to the cabin. They also have a kitchen, so if you’d rather make one stop to shop, eat + sip, you can do it all here. 🌾 The market is open Monday–Saturday, while the kitchen keeps separate hours and is closed Wednesdays, so be sure to check current hours before heading over.

The vibe: waterfalls → country diner → provisions + pastries → cabin.

FALL CREEK FALLS DAY - 41 miles

This deserves a whole day. Fall Creek Falls itself is the headline, but the park also contains Cane Creek Falls, Cane Creek Cascades and other overlooks/trails; there are more than 30 miles of hiking trails in the natural area.

Fall Creek Falls is the big adventure day. Home to one of the tallest waterfalls in the eastern United States, the park is filled with overlooks, cascades, swinging bridges and miles of wooded trails. Make your way to the main event — Fall Creek Falls plunging 256 feet into the gorge below — but don’t rush it. There’s plenty worth discovering along the way.

For the coffee stop, I LOVE Miller's Bread in Pikeville. It's a small bakery café with coffee, breakfast/lunch and a reputation for cinnamon rolls and baked goods. The current posted schedule is Mon–Fri 8–3.

Make The Butter Dish in Pikeville your post-adventure lunch or dinner stop. Settle in for homestyle, scratch-made comfort food, daily specials and homemade desserts in a cozy, small-town setting. Most dishes are made fresh in-house, making it the perfect place to refuel after a day exploring Fall Creek Falls.

Looking for coffee instead? Stop by Creek Side Cafe for coffee, breakfast or a quick sandwich before heading into the park. It’s an easy little morning stop to grab a cup + something to eat before a full day of waterfall chasing.

The vibe: coffee + cinnamon roll → BIG waterfall day → homestyle Tennessee dinner → Seven Springs.

Seven Springs Tip 🌿

These are slow-day itineraries, not checklists. Pick a waterfall, stop somewhere local, wander a little, and come home when you're tired.
